When asked why he loves to teach, Brian replies:
"I love sharing my passion with folks who are just as passionate. It's about bringing joy to people."
Brian offers Banjo, Fiddle, and Guitar Lessons to students of all ages and skill levels, in private and in classroom settings, and online (FaceTime / Skype / Google Talk). Brian learned from master performers Bill Keith, Reed Martin & Clyde Davenport and passes their wisdom on to his students.
He is well versed in both Bluegrass (3-Finger/Scruggs) and Old-Time (Clawhammer & 2-Finger) styles of playing Banjo and is quite the source for Old-Time Southern Appalachian tunes on the Fiddle. He has also been playing guitar all his life. An award-winning performer, taught by his parents, and directly from highly regarded banjo players and fiddlers throughout the South, Brian's connection to the music is certainly one of tradition.
A musician with 25 years experience in performing and 15 years experience in teaching, he has all the qualifications to effectively instruct. His teaching style is based on the way he learned to play, which emphasizes the understanding of the 6 T's: Tuning, Timing, Tone, Taste, Technique & TAB. He suggests learning to play by critical listening, developing a musical ear, and practicing his methods as instructed.
Brian teaches at his home studio; classrooms, festivals, and camps throughout the world; and online. He is booking workshops for the upcoming 2018/19 seasons. He has been a cultural ambassador in the countries of China, India, United Kingdom, Ireland, Bulgaria, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Holland, and Latvia as an official American Banjo and Fiddle Representative for cultural exchange.
