[Key of D, fiddle GDAE, banjo d-GDGA]
“We got this one from our talented friend Kellam Throgmorten here in Binghamton, whose musical home is originally Chicago, where he learned the local style of Irish fiddling from Liz Carroll when he was in high school. Aside from his devotion to prehistoric folklife, Kellam has traveled all over to many ancient sites, playing ancient tunes on his fiddle. We get together for what we call Irish-American tunes a few (very special) times a year. The Belle of Lexington is a classic example of Irish to American crossover, sourced from a hornpipe called Kitty’s Wedding from O'Neill's Music Of Ireland collection, c. 1880. With a little more speed, a hornpipe can become a reel, and then over time, an American-named tune that’s fun to play.” --BV
