“I first heard this wonderful Woody Guthrie waltz sung by folk-singer/activist Barbara Dane and was immediately drawn to it. The idea of the “rambler” is so romantic and so very American. It’s tragic and exciting at the same time; the familiar story of someone who has what they need at home but is called to the road, it’s their destiny. Dane did such a good job painting the picture of a young girl and her summertime travels, I knew I had to try my hand at it as well. The melody and lyrics stand alone so well on this one so we didn’t want to add much to the arrangement, just a few sprinkles of fiddle and harmony.” --CV
